Menno Cross 2010: A Celebration of Mud

For many cyclocross purists, the sound of tires squishing through goopy mud is the epitome of cyclocross. Those purists would have given Menno Cross 2010 two thumbs up. It was actually a beautiful fall day, sunny and warm. But another significant rainfall in a summer of far too many significant rainfalls left the field around CMU's North Campus a bit on the soft side on race day. It held up pretty well for the C race and the kids. But by the time the field of 60 B racers was finished with their race, some portions of the course were reduced to a soupy sludge. This did not deter the 20 racers who contested the top race of the day. Their faces may have been caked with mud after 60 minutes of racing, but they were grinning from ear to ear for the opportunity to take part in a race that will no doubt go down as one of the most memorable events of the season.

With many more CMU staff, students, and alumni participating this year, the field swelled to 133 racers, making Menno Cross 2010 the largest cyclocross race ever to be held in Manitoba. Thanks to everyone who participated. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. And we hope to see you back next year--with a couple of friends in tow.

See the results here.

Here are a few photos, mostly of the B race. Check back later for photos and the annual Menno Cross Movie.
